“You make me forget how to breathe.”

I am not sure what kind of water Kristen Proby is drinking these days but I want some. Just when you think that she has created the sexiest male character to date, she comes up with a hot tattooed rocker with a bossy attitude to melt your panties into oblivion, an apa not even needed to achieve such results! And then she goes one step further and gives us a visual of said rock star – Mr Sulan Von Zoomlander – in case the mental image wasn’t enough. This is a book that will definitely hit all the right spots, make you lick your fingers from all the delicious hot lovin’ scenes in it and remind you why Ms Proby is truly the Crown Queen of Smuttiliciousness.

Our heroine is Samantha Williams, the foul-tempered sister of Luke Williams from Come Away With Me, and while we did not particularly love her attitude in the previous books in the series, we now finally get the pleasure of meeting the real Sam, we get to understand her, see what makes her tick and recognise the vulnerability behind her tough exterior. She struggles with her family’s fame as it makes her feel invisible and always uncertain of people’s true motivations. Sam is a woman with so many layers to her personality that it truly takes a worthy hero to peel them all off and expose the woman behind them who not only finds it difficult to trust others, but who is also inherently afraid to let herself love.

“I’m not anyone special. I don’t have any amazing talents, I don’t make a ton of money, I’m not even a very nice person. The only thing I have is famous family members.”

Enter Leo Nash – rocker, dominant male, sex god. His painful past has made him hungry for control, in all aspects of his life, including the bedroom. While Sam’s sassy attitude and filter-free mouth might turn most men who show any interest in her away, Leo is no ordinary ‘interested party’ and the more Sam tries rejecting him, the more he pursues her. He senses a deeply engrained fragility in her, and the protective caveman in him cannot turn away. He introduces himself into her life firstly as a friend, never hiding his attraction to her, but also never rushing her to let her guard down.

“I lift my hand to her cheek but she flinches, and I can’t help the surge of pure anger at her reaction. Who the f*ck put that in her?”

From the moment their friendship crosses the line of sexual intimacy, there is no turning back for either of them. Their sexual compatibility is off the charts, overwhelming and immediate, and soon Leo is slowly but surely cracking through Sam’s protective shell. He possessively wants to take care of her, pamper her, make her feel loved and comfortable enough to not only submit her body to him, but also her heart.

“You are everything I’ve ever wanted, Sam. More than music. More than anything.”

Sam, on the other hand, is exactly what Leo has been looking for all his life – someone to challenge him, make him laugh, ground him, but also someone to share his views on family and commitment in general. He understands her more than she understands herself, sees all her little qualms and triggers, and works around them to gain her trust.

“I’m completely in love with her. I just don’t know how to tell her because I’m afraid that as soon as I do, she’ll run at full speed in the other direction.”

This is ultimately a story about the value of family, both immediate as well as extended, and the irreplaceable network of support it offers to those lucky enough to have it. Like with all the previous books in the With Me in Seattle series, the secondary characters often steal the show, bringing us some of those stories back and continuing them. In terms of character development, there were certain sides of Leo ad Sam I wish had been explored more, in greater depth, as I feel a unique door into these characters’ pasts was opened but the threshold was never properly crossed. There were no real highs or lows in this story, no angsty moments to recover from. Greater emphasis is put on the sexual journey between the characters, rather than their own emotional one, but with a formula this pleasant to read, I am definitely not complaining.

There is no doubt in my mind that you will love this book, and that it will capture your attention and feed your senses page after page. And mark my words – you will want to lick Leo’s stars too!

“Oh, sunshine,” I whisper and smile gently. “Haven’t you figured out that I’m completely in love with you?”

review

“I know I’m not anyone special. I know that you shouldn’t be interested in someone like me. We are from two totally different worlds.”

Kristen Proby’s unique brand of feel-good smuttiliciousness never ceases to make my heart beat a little bit faster and Play With Me just added its own beat to that particular arrhythmia. In the third book of the With Me in Seattle series, we meet Megan and Will. We were introduced to these characters at the end of Fight With Me and even from that short introduction we knew they would set those pages on fire.

Megan is a paediatric nurse and Jules’ old friend from college. Once upon a time she dreamed of becoming a singer but that dream was cut short when her singing partner left her behind to pursue his own singing career. She is now dedicated to her nursing job body and soul, loved by patients and colleagues alike, but with no one waiting for her at home at night.

Will is Jules’ football star brother. He lives the life of a bachelor, enjoying the perks of his success but dedicating his life to his career. When he meets Megan, he is immediately drawn to her, he wants her and he is not ashamed to communicate that to her. However, Megan is not like the groupies that normally throw themselves at him and his teammates. She rejects his advances, unequivocally showing her lack of interest in dating him. But rejection not being a flavour that Will has often had to taste, he pursues her relentlessly, wearing her reservations down and showing her that all her preconceptions about him are wrong. The more she tries pushing him away, the more he holds onto her and pampers her with loving attention.

A gently developing love story that is initially based on physical attraction alone quickly becomes a whole lot more than that. However, while Will dives into it with no life vest on, Megan stays reluctant to embrace her feelings for him, love not being an emotion she is too comfortable with. Her childhood was marred by a careless and loveless mother whose negligence caused Megan to grow up in foster care. This taught her that demonstrating love towards someone could only lead to vulnerability and ultimately heartache. So she holds onto her feelings for Will, guarding them fiercely and never verbalising them. She hopes that if she does not say those three little words, he would not end up abandoning her like every other person she has ever truly cared for.

“When I can say the words, when I can finally tell you how I feel, please don’t leave me.”

But the heart cannot be told what to feel and even the toughest of walls crack under the weight of a Montgomery man determined to show his woman that she is loved.

“Don’t you see what I feel for you? Can’t you feel it when I make love to you? The way I look at you? Jesus, Meg, you’re all I see. You’re all I want.”

Megan’s trust issues make it hard for her to show others that she loves them and while Will’s love for her is unconditional, genuine, pure, accepting, her doubts keep setting them back, never fully embracing the magic they found in each other. But Will is no ordinary man – he understands Megan and the reasons behind her behaviour, giving her space and time to become truly comfortable expressing her love for him. He is protective, supportive of everything she does and always in sync with her emotional state. He wears his heart on his sleeve proudly and for everyone to see.

“I knew that I’d fall in love eventually. That I’d end up meeting a nice girl and we’d get married and have a few kids and a good life together. But I had no idea that I could love someone so much that it absolutely consumes me.”

A beautiful lesson in patience, acceptance of another’s hesitations to show their emotions readily, and unconditional commitment to prove to that person they are loved. This book is the perfect combination of erotica and romance. The characters are carefully developed and they start getting under your skin from the very first page. This is not a particularly angsty story or one that required resolutions of complex inter-personal struggles. This is a book that will warm the heart first and foremost, while also making it race and skip a beat at times. The scorching hot love scenes alone will make this a very fulfilling reading experience, not to mention that Ms Proby has managed to create another perfect hero to ruin all men for us. This is a book you will inhale in one sitting and will leave you smiling long after you’ve finished it.

“You are mine, sweetheart. Get used to it.”

“Megan, wake up,” I croon softly to her and brush little wisps of hair off her neck.

“Hmph,” she answers with a moan and turns away from me.

“C’mon, lazy bones, wake up.” I plant little kisses on her bare shoulder and upper arm and slide my hand over her stomach and up to her breast, cupping it in my hand while I worry the nipple between my fingers.

I can’t get enough of her soft skin.

“I’m sleepy,” she murmurs and turns toward me, burrowing against me and settle in to sleep with her forehead pressed to my chest.

Fuck, she’s adorable.

“I have a surprise for you.”

“You do?” she asks, not moving.

“Yep, but you have to wake up to get it.”

“I don’t want it.”

Stubborn woman.

“I think I’ll have you for dessert, Julianne.”

Prepare to feast your senses and lick your fingers in another luscious story from an author that combines romance and erotica in the most smuttiliciously decadent way. This is the second book in the With Me In Seattle series.

We met Jules in Come Away With Me as Natalie’s smart-mouthed and no-nonsense best friend. She is loyal, independent, strong and a hopeless romance sceptic. Until she meets Nate. He seems to ignite every fibre in her body, shakes her resolve about not needing romance in her life, he is the perfect package in her eyes except… he is also her boss in a company where fraternization among colleagues is not just frowned upon, it is not tolerated at all. But one incredible night of passion leaves Jules scared of what she might be starting to feel for Nate and terrified of rejection. Unwilling to see regret in his eyes the following morning, she flees his bed in the middle of the night, leaving him confused and hurt. They spend the following year pretending like nothing ever happened between them, suppressing their attraction and their craving for one another.

And then Nate makes her an offer she is incapable of refusing – to spend a weekend together, no strings attached, to just get to know each other better and enjoy each other’s company. What follows is quite possibly the hottest set of toe-curling fireworks I have had the pleasure of reading, Jules and Nate not only being a perfect match in bed, but also soul mates in every other way.

“It’s just dinner, Julianne.”
“You’re not looking at me like you just want dinner, Nate.”
He cocks his head to the side and a smile kisses his lips. “How am I looking at you?”
“Like you’d like to f*ck me on this desk.”

Nate pursues her affection relentlessly and hungrily, knowing that she marked his heart from the moment they met. His gentle but irresistible seduction leaves Jules powerless to fight her own feelings for him, slowly falling in love with a man that not only seems to adore her, but would also do anything to make her happy. Nate is protective of her, unashamedly demonstrating a primal need inside him to look after her. For an independent and confident woman that was taught not to need a man to depend on and to always look after herself, Jules struggles to give that control to Nate, but soon realises that she might have been desperately looking for someone to want to protect her all along.

“I’m a badass, but there are times that I need someone to hold me up too, and I didn’t know until I found you that that doesn’t make me weak, it means that I’ve found my partner.”

Nate’s quiet possessiveness is the perfect counterpart to Jules’s struggle for independence. He does not want to change her or clip her wings – he strives to give her a safe place to be the strong self-sufficient woman he fell in love with, but always knowing that he supports everything that she does and everything that she is. His love for her is self-sacrificing and selfless. He’s almost desperate to keep her and not have her want to run away from him again.

“You are mine, do you understand? No matter what happens. You. Are. Mine.”

Jules becomes a different woman with Nate – he makes her flourish emotionally into someone who is no longer afraid of trusting a man with her heart. She lets him in, not only into her heart but also into her life. And into her family. But when you’ve been looking after yourself all your life, believing that someone else might also have your best interest at heart is not always an easy lesson to learn.

In this heart-warmingly romantic but sizzling-hot love story between two characters that complement each other in every possible way, we are shown that needing someone is not a weakness, that love finds even the most wary of hearts, and that trust is a dish best served with a slice of chocolate cheesecake. And an apa.

“I love it when you look at me like this.”
“How am I looking at you?” I whisper and push my fingers into his thick hair…
“Like I’m all you see.” He whispers back to me.
“You are all I see.”

“Not me.”
“Why?” I ask again.
“Because Julianne suits you.” He shrugs and takes a bite of his food.
“But I prefer Jules.”
“Okay, Julianne.” He winks at me, and grins broadly before taking another bite of food.
“I’ll bet when you were small your teacher sent home a letter to your parents saying, ‘Doesn’t play well with others.’”
Nate laughs, and my gut clenches. “Probably.”

Under The Mistletoe With Me by Kristen Proby

underthemistletoewithme

Isaac and Stacy Montgomery have been married for ten years. They have a beautiful new baby girl, Isaac’s construction business is thriving, and Stacy enjoys being a stay at home mom, reviewing sexy romance novels for her blog.

With a very large extended family, and the many privileges they enjoy, Stacy will be the first to admit that they are blessed beyond measure.

When suspicious phone calls and text messages begin, Stacy questions Isaac’s faithfulness for the first time in their marriage. She knows that a new baby brings changes into a relationship, but has the stress of parenthood sent Isaac into another woman’s arms, threatening to destroy their marriage?

review

“I don’t see the changes, Stace. I see my wife.”

A delightful novella from the With Me in Seattle series, in which we meet again the oldest sibling of the Montgomery clan, Isaac, and his sweet wife Stacy.

After three long years of rigorous fertility treatments, Isaac and Stacy have finally been blessed with a perfect little baby girl but the ordeal of not being able to conceive for so long has taken a toll on the couple. Misunderstandings, doubts, insecurities, and even occasional bouts of jealousy are all beginning to taint the once-bulletproof relationship between the spouses. Although their love for each other remains as strong as always, it becomes evident to both that their marriage is lacking a fresh injection of romance to fuel the struggling flame of intimacy between them.

They decide to work on their marriage by spending an intimate weekend away rekindling their physical connection and rediscovering each other’s bodies again. They soon realise that some bonds are impossible to break and that a little bit of good ol’ hot lovin’ is exactly what the doctor prescribed.

This is a story about the compelling fears of a young woman faced with the dread of losing the picture-perfect life she has built with the love of her life and the willingness of both spouses to do anything in their power to keep their flame alive and burning brightly, rather than flickering into extinction.

In this short and sweet, but deliciously erotic in parts holiday novella, Ms Proby shows us again that love does not have to be one finger-biting rollercoaster after another and that a story does not have to be drenched in angst to leave you smiling at the happy ending. It brings back all our beloved characters from Come Away With Me and even introduces some new ones.

Finally, as a surprise little gift to her readers, the author gives us a panty-melting chapter-long teaser from the next book in the series, Fight With Me, due for release on 4 January 2013. Holy guacamole!

Come Away With Me by Kristen Proby

Being confronted on the beach by a sexy stranger wasn’t part of Natalie Conner’s plans for a peaceful morning taking photos. And why on earth would he think she’s taking pictures of him, anyway? Who is he? One thing’s for sure, he’s hot, and incredibly romantic, feeding Natalie’s wounded soul.

Luke Williams just wants the world to give him a break, so seeing yet another camera aimed at his face has him ready to pounce on the beauty behind the lens. When he finds out she has no idea who he is, he’s intrigued and more than a little tempted by her. Natalie has a body made for sex, a sassy mouth and Luke can’t get enough of her, but he’s not ready to tell her who he really his.

Natalie is a no nonsense girl who doesn’t do well with lies and secrets. What will happen to this new relationship when she discovers what Luke’s hiding?

review

“I wake to the sun across my face and no covers over my naked body. Luke’s face is between my legs.”

I sometimes seriously wonder what all these turbulent romantic stories that I ravenously read have done to my perception of ‘romance’ itself and it is books like this one that amplify those questions in my head even more. Why is it that I feel like I need industrial quantities of angst in a fictional relationship to feel satisfied at the end of it? Has my romance-sensor become broken??

This is a lovely story of two alike individuals unknowingly looking for the same things in life. Their chance encounter starts as a disaster but it blossoms into attraction that neither of them are able to suppress. Natalie is an independent professional, a kind and generous friend, with no immediate family and scars from her past that never properly healed. She is a reformed former wild child whose priorities in life became clear to her when she suddenly found herself with no loving family of her own. When she loves, she loves deeply and wholeheartedly, but she rarely opens her heart to a man.

“… when I was in college, I didn’t think much of myself. And therefore, neither  did anyone else. I didn’t date as a choice …. But sex was something I understood. I’ve never wanted to feel anything else for a man.”

Luke’s life has been the polar opposite of Natalie’s. While her career as a photographer allows her to hide behind the lens and make others express the intensity of emotions that she keeps buried inside, Luke has lived in and been deeply burned by the limelight. As a former movie star, he now lives in constant fear of being recognised and of people invading his privacy. Their connection is initially born out of anonymity, Natalie not recognising Luke, but their growing connection has nothing to do with who they are and everything to do with what they crave in life the most – someone to trust their heart with.

As their relationship develops it simply flat-lines. They are faced with very few bumps in the road, making this decidedly the least angsty love story I have ever read. Even when they fight, they forgive each other soon after – they simply float in their blissful little love bubble, building their relationship rather than tearing it down, perhaps offering us doomed angst-addicted romantics a different point of view on love in general. There is a certain desperation to their connection, a hopeless need to stay together and fight to make it work, making this a story of ‘staying together’ rather than ‘fighting not to break up’.

“Don’t leave me.” He holds onto me tightly, clenching his eyes shut.

As perfect and smooth as the path before them might seem to us, this desperation is evident in the jealousy they are both guilty of nursing. Being well aware of the rarity of what they found in each other, they are confronted with the green-eyed-monster that they never knew they had in them. They are territorial, demanding, possessive and controlling, but they are also all those things equally, and it somehow works for them.

“You had your hands on her and the look on your face was the one you give me when you smile at me … You effectively ripped my heart out and stomped it to dust with just one look … Luke, I don’t want you anywhere near that woman. I don’t want you to work with her.”

If there is one thing that didn’t quite work for me it would have to be the abundant use of complimentary adjectives to describe the characters, both in dialogues as well as narrative. Luke’s ‘perfection’ in Natalie’s eyes is pointed out a few times too many, making the reader somewhat uncomfortable and exhausted from all the instances – “He is simply a Greek God. His body is perfect in every way.”  However, all the well-written and deliciously visual hot lovin’ scenes make up for it and then some. They are sensual, they are toe-curling and they will make you gasp for more.

If there is a hopeless romantic somewhere in your DNA, look no further – this is the book for you. It made me question my tainted little heart but I most definitely struggled to put it down.
